Homemade Garlic Bread using Sliced Bread Recipe

Garlic bread is a bread with olive oil, butter, garlic, and herbs like parsley. It is very delicious, and everybody enjoys this food, which we usually eat it with either pizza or pasta.

Today, I am going to teach you how to cook homemade garlic bread using sliced bread. That is right. I am using white sliced bread.

In my experience, I cooked both garlic bread using french bread and white sliced bread, and I noticed there is no difference in terms of taste, except, french bread is more crispy compared to sliced bread. I am using the same ingredients, so the taste should be the same. If you have a hard time finding french bread, you can just buy an ordinary sliced bread.

Things you need when cooking Garlic Bread

When cooking my homemade garlic bread using sliced bread, you will need to prepare a salted butter, olive oil, garlic, parsley, and cheese. If you do not want to add cheese, that is perfectly fine as long as you have the main ingredients.

One thing to remember is that you must have a correct ratio when using garlic, butter, parsley, and olive oil since it might produce a balanced taste. We don’t have a strong garlicky taste, or too green because of too much parsley.

For butter, I used only 1/2 cup of butter. It might look little but if you mixed with other ingredients, it could serve good for 6 to 8 garlic bread.

I also added between 3 to 4 cloves of garlic, and 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of parsley. I do not want my garlic bread to be too green since the texture does not look appealing.

Lastly, I prepared two tablespoons of olive oil. The purpose of olive oil is to reduce the strong garlic taste and helps mixed the butter and the herbs well. I prefer to use virgin olive oil since it has many health benefits, but you are welcome to use any kind of olive oil.

Sauce for Garlic Bread

After that, I add butter, garlic, olive oil, and parsley, which I mixed it all in a small bowl. One thing to remember, if you want to make the butter-soft to help mix the ingredients well, do not warm the butter in the microwave. That is because it will turn into a watery texture that looks weird. We want the sauce to be creamy before adding in the pieces of bread. To make the butter soft, just remove it from the refrigerator, and leave it to expose to room temperature for 30 minutes.

What kind of Cheese do I add in the Garlic Bread?

After you mixed the sauce with the bread- either baguette or white sliced bread, I add the cheese at the top of the garlic bread. I love cheese so much, and there are two kinds of cheese I am using: Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese.

What kind of Oven do I used?

Because I am living in an apartment, I don’t have a gas stove oven. Instead, I am using a conventional oven which I baked it for 15 minutes in 180 degree Celsius or 350 Fahrenheit.

A delicious homemade garlic bread using a sliced bread, which is mixed with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

  • 6 to 8 white slices of bread

  • 1/ 2 cup of salted butter

  • 2 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil (or any olive oil)

  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of chopped parsley

  • 4 cloves of chopped garlic

  • 1 to 2 cups of Mozzarella cheese

  • 1 to 2 cups of Cheddar cheese

Directions

  • Add the butter, olive oil, garlic, and parsley in a small bowl and mix it all together to make into a sauce
  • Spread the sauce in each bread
  • Add the cheese topping on the bread. Cheddar cheese should be added first, followed by Mozzarella cheese
  • Transfer it to the oven and bake it for 15 minutes in 180 Celsius or 350 Fahrenheit

Notes

  • If you want to make the garlic bread a little soft, covered the bread with aluminium foil while baking in the oven. This will do the trick
  • If you don’t have mozzarella or cheddar cheese, you just use any cheese that suit your taste
  • If you are using unsalted butter, add salt to for taste.
