Everybody loves french fries including me, and it is popular in the Western diet where it is served with burgers or sandwiches. it has become a popular staple in many cuisines around the world and has long been enjoyed for its crispy texture and comforting taste.

One variation of Mediterranean fries that I really enjoyed is the Turkish fries. Among the locals, they called it "Kizarmis Patates" which is considered a popular street food in Turkey. This fries is different than classic french fries since it is infused with different herbs giving it a nice flavor. In addition, you can serve it with ketchup, ketchup-mayo, or white garlic sauce.

When I tried this in a Turkish restaurant in the Middle East, I was in love with it since it was delicious because of the herbs on it. In this post, I am inspired to make my version of the Turkish fries recipe.

    Recipe Ingredients

Here are the ingredients to make Turkish Fries:

Potatoes: I use fresh potatoes which I cut into long, thin strips or wedges, similar to traditional french fries.

Vegetable Oil: I am using canola oil to fry the fries

White Flour: Although this is optional and not traditional, it helps absorb excess moisture from the potatoes, resulting in a crispier exterior.

Herbs: I am using cumin, thyme, and paprika since they add a distinct flavor to the fries. The cumin will add a nutty flavor, the paprika gives a mildly sweet & smoky flavor and the thyme will add a slightly mint flavor.

    Step by Step Instruction

Here are the steps on how to cook the Turkish fries which is easy and delicious:

    • Firstly, I cleaned the potatoes and then peeled off the skin
    • Next, I sliced it into thick stripes and place it in the bowl.
    • Pour cold water and then leave it for 30 minutes to help remove the excess starch
    • After it soaked for 30 minutes, I removed the water and use a paper towel to dry the sliced potato stripes.
    • Next, I coated all-purpose flour on the potatoes to add a crisp texture.
    • In a separate pan, I pour the vegetable oil and when it's hot, I placed the potatoes on the pan.
    • Let it fry till it turns a golden brown or becomes crispy
    • Once the fries are cooked, transfer them to the plate with a paper towel below to remove the excess oil
    • After that, I transfer the fries into the bowl and seasoned it with cumin, paprika, thyme, and salt.
    • Once they are mixed well, serve it on a plate with any sauce desired.
